Hey all! I wanted to drop a little note and let you know about a couple features that are on our servers right now, and will be for the foreseeable future. In-game admin'ing for our staff has been going on awhile now, in brief on either of our Black Ops servers, simply type !cmd into the team or global chat areas to see a list of all the commands you can use.
In addition to this, there is a stats program running which collects scores (kills only right now) and tracks you. The !rank and !stats commands will give you various separate details about you and your performance (again, kills only atm) between BOTH our servers. That's right, it doesn't matter if you're a crouchy or a runner, your stats will be side-by-side in ONE collective listing. You may also see the top 5 players by using the !topstats command.
The new maps have been a big success, and the rotation is going to get shaken up a bit this week, as we expand on gametypes as well as maps a bit, throwing a little more of the old back in play. Requests for any specific gametype/map combo are ALWAYS welcome! Also throwing on the table for running it by gametype (IE all the maps on DOM, then all the maps on dEMO, ctf, etc.. Popular gametypes and maps only of course! :) Let me know if you'd be a fan or foe of that idea!
Donations have been strugglin' a bit these past two months, if you can find it in your heart (and wallet) to help out, please consider doing so. I've had a couple generous regulars (you know who you are) but need some more to meet goals and the minimum. The goal is essentially the amount due on servers per month, and since Feb., has included a small portion to try and save up for 'the next big game', whatever ya'll deem desired for a dedicated server. As of today, that 'kitty' is empty. Not harping or complaining, just pointing it out so 'it's on the table'.
There is also a silent competition going on, dubbed 'topple the Living Czar'. Bragging rights and who knows what more lay in waiting for the entity who can claim the #1 spot from the two which both foolishly think they own.
As this is April, and depending on where you live not only is school letting out in as soon as a month, but nice weather is approaching, this is your friendly reminder that cKs doesn't want to get in the middle of your life away from gaming/computing. We do ask, however, that if you are going to be away for an extended period of time that you take a moment and email Rooster (or xfire me!) and let us know if that's going to be the case. Otherwise you may receive "A.W.O.L" letter from us wondering what happened to ya, and be moved from the active to A.W.O.L. members list. It is something I struggle with, I hate doing it, but members as well as potential members need to know what the actual active population is here. (and yea, I've not been the best at keeping up with it, it is one of my goals in the next couple months).

Black Ops in the House!!

Black Ops have hit the server!
That's right, Call of Duty: Black Ops servers have officially been fired up! There is are severe limitations placed on the servers, much in a Battlefield-series fashion, and tools have not yet been released. This is normal, though, often times rcon tools and the like are not available for several days, to weeks after game launch, and make or may not come from the game company, though rumor on the web is that Treyarch IS, in fact planning on releasing an official tool. Regardless, 3rd party will pop up soon enough.
Gaming may commence on the following servers:
Server 1: cKs1 Christian INSANITY HC (173.199.103.69:3074)
Server 2: cKs2 Christian CROUCH TAC (66.55.159.168:3074)
11*16 Update:
Seems there was a server-wide update pushed last night causing some downtime, and then a master server issue (possibly to address the server update). All is well again..
NOTE: Seems the recent website update damaged the website registration system. I will be addressing this ASAP. Anyone needing an account in the meantime plz contact info (AT. christiankeysmashersDOTCOM.
11/15 Update:
Got word from the host that cKs1 'should' be fixed. They are asking us to give it a good testing and see what we think. I'll be out most of the day, so if ya could, jump on it and see how it feels. Xfire me or add comments in the Official CoD:BO thread here on the forums. If all is well, we will reflag our servers and get things running as they should be :)

Exactly one client patch, and one backend master browser fix later, and it looks as if all the servers are showing as they should be!

Okay, I try not to do this much, ranting on the front page. But I'm going to share something with ya'll that developers making boatloads more than I STILL have not figured out. Not suprisingly, COD7, aka Black Ops has been faced with master server issues, in the form of overwhelmingly high use, which has strained the system and forced them to select 'RANDOM' servers which get seen on the master server. Wow. I mean.. This EXACT thing happened with COD4.. This EXACT thing happened with COD5. I boycotted COD6, but I'm guessing even with the boycotters it probably STILL happened with COD6. And shocker - Again, COD7 faces the same issue.. Not enough bandwidth, CPU power or RAM to meet the user demands, despite the fact that they KNOW, ballpark, what it's going to take.
Now, this wouldn't be such a bad thing, I mean, it never IS the end of the world.. Right? You can just just the +connect <IP> on a shortcut link on your desktop, or the /connect <IP> command in the ' ~ ' console menu.. Oh, wait.. Either in COD6 they killed it, or some genius who was probably responsible for master server setup decided those commands are no longer necessary and REMOVED THEM. So folk like us, who PAID to have servers up and running, cannot in ANY WAY, shape or form get on them. At least I know they run, the rcon tool has been showing them busy all day long. Busy, while randomly, since about 1pm, I have been trying here to get on, or even SEE any of our servers..
Really this shouldn't surprise me, after all like I mentioned it before, this WAS an oversight I experienced in both cod4 and 5...
I know no one will, but I'm going to urge ya'll to go to Activision and Treyarch's sites and fiel complaints with customer service over this. I did with our game host, even though they are not 'directly' at all responsible, the way I see it, especially since they were bragging about how they are the 'Official' server host and all, for them not to address this, knowing it was or even could be an issue in my mind is unacceptable.

That's right! The 1st official CoD:Black Ops map pack has shipped and is available! To summarize how this will affect you, please read the official statement from the developers:
With the launch of First Strike on the PC on March 25th, I would like to answer a few of the most frequently asked questions from the community pertaining to server admins, clients, and map rotations. Please read the below guide carefully before posting questions in the forums.
Clients:
Anyone can play on any server, regardless of whether or not you have DLC installed. All players will continue to receive patches (including 1.07, which deploys alongside First Strike). If a server rotates to a DLC map that you do not have installed on your PC, you will automatically get kicked from that server.
Note: There will be an additional browser filter introduced in patch 1.07 that allows you to exclude servers with DLC content in their rotation. Quick match searches will only put players into matches with content that they have installed.
Admins:
All servers will have First Strike available on March 25th. It will be at the server admin’s discretion whether or not to run DLC maps on their server. Admins will also have the freedom to choose which First Strike maps will run on their server.
Note: Admins will NOT have to purchase a copy of the map pack in order to install it on their dedicated server.
Hopefully that clears up some of the most frequently asked questions surrounding the DLC deployment that will take place on March 25th.

Just wanted to take a moment and let the members and community know that right now, our Custom Maps COD4 server is going through some trying times. Please do not rage away if the server ends up in an infinite (or similar) downloading loop. To keep the game fresh and exciting, we frequently add new custom maps to the server. The downside is that sometimes you end up with a weed; a bad map that ruins it for other maps. In this case, you can't detect the 'bad' map by loading it, or by waiting for it to come in the map rotation. The flaw can (and will) strike at any time, any random moment (well, random being on the load of ANY given map, not like during a round or anything).
We don't want to yank the most recent set of maps unless absolutely necessary. We're going through them to determine which might be the cause, and will seek an update or remove it if necessary.
If the server starts this "looping" process, please IM Naz or Roost in X-fire, of if ya don't have us on your list, please be patient and understanding and try back later. I hope for this to be resolved soon.
